Madonna faced unexpected chaos at her wedding with Sean Penn?

Madonna’s costume designer, Marlene Stewart went down memory lane about the singer’s wedding with Sean Penn.

The Queen of Pop’s longtime costume designer, while recalling the wedding, which took place in 1985, told Best magazine, “It was at a house in Malibu. The roads were inaccessible because the press were everywhere.”

Marlene added, “We’d intended to do a fitting and take photographs. But the police stopped me! I insisted I had to get through.”

She further added that there were no cell phones, saying, “So you had pagers and I was just trying to page somebody.”

According to the costume designer, she was “eventually” able to make it through with the gown.

“Eventually, I got through and Herb Ritts [the photographer of Madonna’s ‘True Blue’ album cover] took a photo of her getting ready in the bathroom, and I was under the dress, pulling up the garter belt!” she recalled.

The couple met on the set of Madonna’s Material Girl music video and married six months later.

Madonna and Sean Penn were married for four years before their split in 1989.

Their relationship was marked by allegations of domestic violence, public spats, and infidelity allegations, according to PEOPLE.
