Update []:
It turns out there really is more Astro Bot levels and Special Bots on the way, as during a PlayStation Tournaments XP event, a new speedrun stage has been revealed. You can see it in action in the tweet below:
Original Story: It appears Team Asobi has more content planned for Astro Bot, but the evidence is sourced from a rather unlikely place: a jigsaw puzzle. Following his departure from PlayStation, Shuhei Yoshida has been sent a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle of the PS5 ship featured in the game and lots of Special Bots surrounding it. Eagle-eyed users have now noticed the image shows a character that currently isn’t in the game, suggesting they will at some point in the future.
At the top of the picture, just to the left of the Astro Bot logo, are two volcanoes. Next to them, you’ll spot Kazuya from the Tekken series fighting Heihachi. Kazuya is a reward for completing Birdy Barrage, but Heihachi isn’t in the game at all. The bot even features an updated character model over his design in Astro’s Playroom, lending more weight to the idea he’ll be bundled in with a future content update.
Since its release in September 2024, the platformer has been updated with five speedrun levels as well as a Christmas-themed level called Winter Wonder, all for free. With another Special Bot seemingly on the way, they’ll need to be tied to another new level in some way. With a State of Play rumoured to take place next month, the announcement of this new Astro Bot content might not be too far out.
